Winter is particularly tricky time of year for your plumbing. Water expands when it freezes and turns to ice. When it freezes in your pipes, your pipes can crack or burst. However, a little preparation can help you avoid this problem.
Pipes that are more exposed to the elements are more susceptible to freezing. These pipes include outdoor hose bibs, swimming pool supply lines, water sprinkler lines, pipes running along exterior walls, and water supply lines in unheated indoor spaces like basements, crawl spaces, attics, garages or kitchen cabinets.
To prepare your pipes, drain pool and sprinkler lines. Drain, detach, and store hoses. Insulate any exposed pipes. Keep all doors closed. Open cabinet doors to let warm air circulate around the plumbing. For small periods of time you can let water drip from your faucets to prevent water from freezing.
If you are dealing with frozen pipes, contact ARS Rescue Rooter Lafayette immediately.
